android-vs-apple
These are the facts, but there is more. Read the article below to learn more about the current situation on the tablet market.

In these days a real battle is brewing between Apple and its competitors on the tablet pc market. Fact is that Apple is selling most of these devices now in 2011. But why?

  • Are their tablets significantly better than other Android tablets? Not really... See technical details for more information
  • Are their tablets significantly cheaper than other Android tablets? Definitely Not! See details below!
  • Do they have a better support than Android tablets? Can anything be better supported than an open source platform?

But what is it then, what makes the iPad so successfull?

  • Marketing Budget - Apple spent $691 million just in 2010 on marketing, while Verizon, Motorola and Google together spent less than $100 million on advertising of the Android OS.
  • Pricing - Apple products, especially the iPad - are highly overpriced, to make you feel that you are an elitist who can afford to buy and own a "special product".
  • Perception - Apple knows and uses the power of perception. People are writing about the iPad like it has already won the tablet war, but the key is that the iPad doesn’t have to be a winner to be a winner; it just needs to be perceived as such. They clearly don't have the best technology, but everyone thinks they do.
  • Agressive Marketing - Apple is creating a digital lifestyle and suggests that anyone else who is not "living in the Apple world" is uncool and old-fashioned. They are degrading their opponents and nothing will deter them to defend their position on the market.

Here is an actual example of Apple's aggression: Apple has has secured a court order to prevent the sale of the Samsung Galaxy Tablets in the European Union. It shows the power of Apple, that the request for an injunction was filed with no notice to Samsung, and the order was issued without any hearing or presentation of evidence from Samsung. Apple has also filed complaints in the same court against the Motorola Xoom and a small German company JAY-Tech.
